Pictured are the golfers from the Third Annual Dunkirk, Fredonia, Mindszenty Alumni Golf Tournament, held Friday, Aug. 10, at Shorewood Country Club. The tournament raised nearly $1,500 through donations, which were taken in memory of John Williams (DHS Class of 1962), and were given to Dunkirk and Fredonia Little League.

Priscilla Penfold earned Golfer of the Week honors while Daniel finished second.

The women will hold their monthly luncheon on Aug. 29, at Shorewood Country Club.

Wednesday Morning Ladies Purple Posse League - This week's game was pull the tees. Winners were Anita Lancor (first place), Viki Clark (second), Marci Casella (third). The league will be playing again on Aug. 22. The game will be 'Just the Putts, Please.' The league will meet at 9:30 a.m., and tee-off at 10. New members are always welcome.

ParTee Girls - Amy North and Carolyn Rawlinson both fired a low gross of 43, followed by Lynn LaMattina with a 44 and June Beers and Pat Thompson with 48.

Beers and Penny Newman had the low net of 30; LaMattina had a 31 and Kelly Crawford a 33. Sue Slate had the longest drive on No. 9 and Wilma Benjamin the longest putt on No. 1.

Fredonia resident Connor Farnham shot a hole-in-one on the 130-yard No. 6 hole, using a pitching wedge. Zach Sliwa and John Jamieson were the witnesses to the shot, which took place Monday. It was Farnham's first career hole-in-one.

FHS X-Country Practice

The first practice for athletes interested in running cross country at Fredonia High School will be Monday, August 20, at 4 p.m.

Athletes should meet at Tinman Hill on the SUNY Fredonia State campus. All athletes must have a physical and have their brown form turned into the school nurse prior to Monday's practice. Athletes should bring a water bottle and show up prepared to run. Any questions should be directed to Mark Fitzgerald 238-1155 or Carol Zirkle 785-0283.

Randy Goss Memorial Golf Tournament

The 2012 Randy Goss Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Aug. 18 and will be held at Rosebrook Golf Course in Silver Creek.

This is a two-person scramble format with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $55 per person which includes golf, cart, skins, CTPs on every hole, lunch, beer, pop and dinner to follow at Rosebrook. There will be a bus taking golfers from Dunkirk to Rosebrook. Golf is limited to 72 golfers. To sign up call Jason Goss at 410-1538, Cheryl and Kyle Goss at 366-1156 or talk to any committee member.

Fredonia Swim Team Flapjack Fundraiser

The Fredonia varsity girls swimming and diving team will be holding a flapjack fundraiser at Applebee's on Vineyard Drive in Dunkirk on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 8-10 a.m.

Fredonia Swimming and Diving Practice

The Fredonia varsity girls swimming and diving team will hold its first practice at 7 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 20. Athletes must have a valid physical, submitted brown forms and waivers in order to practice. Please contact Coach Crist at 716-679-1556 with any questions.

Westfield One-Pitch Softball Tournament

The Annual Westfield One-Pitch Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 on the softball fields at NorthLake, Smith and Westfield School. Entries must be in by Thursday, Aug. 23.

This is a one-pitch slow pitch format with each batter starting with a 3-2 count. The entry fee is $250 per team. A payout based on 16 teams is $1000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd and $250 for 3rd. Any proceeds will go to the Woody Keyser fund.

Visitors Bureau Annual Golf Tournament

Chautauqua - The Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau announces plans for the 16th annual golf tournament held in honor of CCVB founding director, Donald Hogan.

The tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Chautauqua Golf Club, beginning at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start. Contestants will compete for first, second and third-place prizes, as well as longest drive and closest to the pin awards. The cost is $80 per person and includes a lunch buffet.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Donald Hogan Tourism Scholarship Program. This program awards between three to four scholarships to area seniors each year based on an essay outlining the importance and relevance of tourism in Chautauqua County. Since its inception in 2001, the program has awarded $36,000 in scholarships to 60 area students.

Donald Hogan was the director of Chautauqua County Vacationlands Association, forerunner of Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, until 1989. The Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, a not-for-profit agency, is the official tourism promotion agency for Chautauqua County and New York State's Chautauqua-Allegheny Region including Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties. Parties interested in playing in the CCVB/Hogan Memorial Golf Tournament or in sponsoring a hole, should contact Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau at 357-4569.
