GERRY - The Gerry Volunteer Fire Department recently held its annual banquet to honor department members and their spouses for their efforts in providing fire and rescue services to the community throughout the year.
Special guest speakers for the event were Shawn and Shana Graham of Painted Pony Pro Rodeo, the newly named contractors for the department's 68th consecutive annual PRCA rodeo, which is scheduled for Aug. 1-4. The Grahams spoke about their plans for making the Gerry rodeo even "bigger and better" this year.
Special recognition was given to Carl Westerdahl, who at age 92, is the next-to-the-last living charter member of the department which was organized in 1942. Keith Terry was given the Chief's Award for having answered the most alarms in the past year. Department president Bruce Gustafson and his wife Paula, along with Tom and Sharon Atwell and Paul and Amy Atwell served as the banquet committee.
