GOWANDA - On July 27, the first Maple Avenue street party was held. The event was hosted by Karen and Corey Clabeaux. It was a night of food, family, friends and community. The theme of the party was getting to know your neighbors and learning to look out for each other.
One couple who attended the event has have lived on this street for over 60 years and another resident lived on the street for over 40 years. Ironically, this party was the first time they had a true opportunity to talk to each other. This gathering also proved be a meet and greet for folks new to the neighborhood.
"We hope other streets continue this trend. Gowanda is a great community and if we all make an effort to know our neighbors better we will see our entire community grow in a positive way," Karen Clabeaux said.
Members of the Maple Avenue block held their first block party recently.
Gowanda Neighborhood Watch wants to keep the safety party theme going. At National Night Out, Gowanda Neighborhood Watch had more information available to anyone who wanted to start organization a street party for their neighborhood. National Night Out was sponsored locally by the Gowanda Neighborhood Watch and Gowanda PTA.
The next block party will be held in the Hidi neighborhood. A date has not been scheduled yet but the party will be before the end of summer.
