Apple Seed Christian Preschool's 4th Annual 5k Run/Walk

The Apple Seed Christian Preschool is getting ready for its Fourth Annual 5k Run/Walk fundraiser. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Welch Field on Third Street, in Westfield, between Elm and Union streets.

Registration and check-in for pre-registered racers will begin at 8 a.m., with the race beginning at 9. Pre-registered participants will receive an event T-shirt.

Runners, walkers and those who want to cheer them on are all welcome to attend. Any area businesses interested in sponsoring the event should call 326-2110.

This event directly benefits the Apple Seed Christian Preschool students.

Jamestown Bowling Company Marathon Tournament

The 17th Annual Labor Day Marathon Tournament at Jamestown Bowling Company will be held Monday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m.

The format will be 10 games across the house with the total pins plus handicap to determine the winner.

Prizes will be awarded to the top nine finishers as well as the high scratch. Jackpots, brackets and eliminators will be available.

Fredonia Swimming and Diving Practice

The Fredonia varsity girls swimming and diving team will hold its first practice at 7 a.m. Monday August 20. Athletes must have a valid physical, submitted brown forms and waivers in order to practice. Please contact Coach Crist at 716-679-1556 with any questions.

Westfield One-Pitch Softball Tournament

The Annual Westfield One-Pitch Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 on the softball fields at NorthLake, Smith and Westfield School. Entries must be in by Thursday, Aug. 23.

This is a one-pitch slow pitch format with each batter starting with a 3-2 count. The entry fee is $250 per team. A payout based on 16 teams is $1000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd and $250 for 3rd. Any proceeds will go to the Woody Keyser fund.

Gowanda Slow Pitch Softball tourney

set for Sept. 2

The 16th Annual Gowanda Men's Slow Pitch Softball Tournament is set for Sunday, Sept. 2.

This is a double-elimination tournament. Batters will start with a 2-1 pitch count. Entry fee is $65 per team.

Fall Soccer Signups for Westfield, Ripley, Brocton and Mayville

There is still time to sign up for fall local youth soccer program. Applications can be picked up and turned in at the Village of Westfield window in Eason Hall, 23 Elm St.

Applications can be mailed in. Signups are for children ages 4-11 (for children turning 4 by Sept. 4 and not turning 12 until Oct. 28). Games will begin Sept. 8 and end Oct. 27.

The fee is $20 for the first child, $15 for the second and $10 for the third (max. of $45 per family), but scholarships are available if needed.

Matteson-Kempo Karate free program

Matteson-Kempo Karate is offering a free recreation program to all students who are enrolled in any of the Chautauqua County schools.

The program runs from Sept. 4-30 and is open to anyone ages 4-18. It will take place at the Family Martial Arts Center, 355 Central Ave., Fredonia.

Following is the schedule for each program

KARATE schedule: ages 3-6 (Lil' Ninja's)

Tuesday and Thursday: 6-6:45 p.m.

Saturday: 11-11:45 a.m.

Ages 7-18

Monday 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Wednesday 6-6:45 p.m.

Saturday: 10-11 a.m.

TAE KWON DO schedule: ages 10-18

Tuesday and Thursday: 7-8:30 p.m.

SELF DEFENSE schedule: ages 10-18

Tuesday and Thursday: 5:30-7 p.m.

All student's will be taught the fundamentals of the martial arts. If at the end of the program they are interested in registering, the Dojo will offer a promotional special. No families will be turned away no matter their financial situation.

Regular sessions accept all ages for the Recreation program and also offer classes for all ages. Parent or guardian pay $5 per month with child registration.
