Twenty years ago - 1992
A memorial fund honoring the late Rev. Robert Versen is being established at the Cassadaga branch library. The Rev. Versen was the pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church in Cassadaga from 1954 to 1978 and served as the parish's pastor emeritus until his death this past June.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Dr. James H. Young, president of Potsdam State University College, will resign his position in October to become chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Dr. Young, the son of Mrs. Gertrude Young of Babcock Street, Silver Creek and the late Harry P. Young, is a native of Silver Creek and a graduate of Fredonia State University College.
Forty years ago - 1972
The Learn and Grow Garden Club has finalized the landscaping of the Hanover Center Fire Hall. Co-chairmen of the project were Mrs. Norman Bolling and Mrs. Elwin Cross, assisted by Mrs. Leland Eddy.

The Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central Railroad went before the Interstate Commerce Commission today, starting down a long legal road they hope will lead to approval of the merger to create the nation's largest rail system.
