Crafters sought for history fair

The Valley Historical Society seeks for crafters to take part in the Sinclairville History Fair Sept. 8. The craft show run in Minckler Common from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A 10- by 10-foot space is $10 if paid before Sept. 1. To register, call Jane Dorman at 962-2253.

Library announces tickets available

The Sinclairville Free Library announces tickets are on sale for the chance to win an iPad 2. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5 and available at the library and Sinclairville Superette. The winning ticket will be drawn during the Sinclairville History Fair Sept. 8. All proceeds benefit the library.

Tarbox Road to be closed Wednesday

The Arkwright Highway Department announces Tarbox Road in Arkwright between Hall Road and Griswold Road will be closed Wednesday for a sluice pipe replacement.

No detour will be posted. Thursday is the rain date.

Gowanda Neighborhood Watch meeting on Sept. 6

The Gowanda Neighbor-hood Watch will meet Sept. 6 at village hall in the board room at 6 p.m.

Portland Board of Fire Commissioners meet Tuesday

A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Portland Fire District will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. for review and formulation of the 2013 Fire District budget and any other business that may come before the board.

The public is encouraged and welcome to attend all meetings of the board.

Relay for Life team Lucky 777 tailgate party Sept. 23

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life team Lucky 777 will host a large tailgate party Sept. 23 on the Dunkirk City Pier at the Boardwalk starting at noon for the Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns game.

The team is in the beginning stages of putting this event together and is asking for help from the community. They are planning a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, children's games, raffles and food. All this will be going on along with watching the game on large screen TVs.

The team is asking if you could donate for this worthwhile cause. Anything would be appreciated and put to good use.

Tire amnesty in Arkwright under way

The town of Arkwright is having a Tire Amnesty Running now through Sept. 1, the limit is 10 tires pickup per resident. Please call Arkwright Highway Super-intendent Steve Mead at 679-9515 for further information.
