Joan M. Evey

Joan M. Evey departed this life peacefully at her Preston, MD home on August 21, 2012. She was 78 years of age. The daughter of the late Jeanette and Richard Pause of Kenmore, NY, Joan attended Kenmore High School and studied early childhood education at Salisbury State University, Salisbury Maryland. She owned and operated Tommy Tucker Nursery in Salisbury for over 20 years.

Joan was an active member of Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Secretary, MD and also attended Bethesda Methodist Church, Preston, MD. She was an active volunteer at the Westfield Memorial Hospital in the 1960s, a member of the board of directors of the Easton Hospital, Easton MD, and a member of the Preston Community Club.

Joan founded two branches of the Red Hat Society in the Salisbury and Preston areas of Maryland.

She is survived by her husband William Evey of Preston MD; one son Donald Nash Jr. and his wife Sarah of Fredonia, NY; two daughters, Brenda DiMillo of West Seneca, NY, and Ellen Bates and her husband Jon of Portland, OR; step children, Kathy and Keith Christopher, Federalsburg, MD; Tom and Cindy Evey, Janice and Greg Burt, Scott and Marilyn Evey all of Preston, MD; Susan and Michael Slowinski of Colrain, MA; one

brother-in-law, Fred Summerton of Dunkirk, NY; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Gracia and Don Nash; Miles and Adam DiMillo; Michelle and Maxwell Bates; four step grandchildren, Elizabeth, Andrew and Angela Slowinski of Colrain, MD; Nathan Burt of Preston; and a host of other family and friends she loved and cherished.

Services included a memorial Mass held August 25, 2012 at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Secretary MD, and a Celebration of Life Memorial held August 26, 2012 at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Preston, MD. Interment services will be held at the discretion of the family at the White Chapel Memorial Park in Amherst, NY at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church, P.O. Box 279, Secretary, MD 21664; or the Caroline County Hospice Foundation PO Box 362, Denton, MD 21639. Arrangements were coordinated by Zeller's Funeral Home, Secretary MD.
