Joyce attended a one-room school house and graduated at the age of 16. An avid reader, Joyce was the local librarian for 20 years. She loved young people and enjoyed working with them very much. Joyce loved

traveling and left her footsteps in every state in the U.S., most of Canada, and parts of Mexico. She loved nature and installed a reverence for it in both of her children. She especially loved her hummingbirds,

orioles, swans and flowers. Joyce was an amateur archaeologist and, along with her husband, spent many

happy hours working on Native American sites. Looking for arrowheads became a family hobby.

Joyce was an active member of the Cassadaga Valley Kiwanis Club for many years. Along with her many

Kiwanis Club activities, Joyce found time to be a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a beloved and special person.

Joyce left behind her loving husband of 62 years, Richard K. Johnson, a son Richard K. (April) Johnson, Jr. and a daughter Kathie D. (Bion) Chaffee. She is survived by her grandsons Kenneth R. (Jason) Johnson, Christopher D. Johnson, and Jonathan L. (Catherine) Easton. She is also survived by her granddaughter Shari J. (Keith) Robbins, and her great-grandchildren Brenden C. and MacKenzie N. Robbins, Chelsea M. (Renee) Johnson and Donald H. Easton. Surviving also are her brothers Donald Bemus, Gilbert Bemus, and

her sister Jean Stubbs, and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce is predeceased by her mother Cecil Bemus and her father Louis Bemus and her brother Louis Bemus.

Joyce will be forever missed by her family and friends.

Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia, where a funeral service will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Cassadaga Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Johnson's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by David J. Dengler.
