Nathan George Foundation, Inc., announces scholarship winners

The Nathan George Foundation, Inc., announces the winners of the 2012 Nathan George Memorial Scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to one male and one female athlete from Fredonia, Dunkirk, Brocton and Silver Creek. Winners are selected based on essay and academic criteria, recommendations as well as community involvement.

The 2012 scholarship recipients are:

Lauren Budniewski, a member of the Fredonia High School Class of 2012. She is the daughter of Kevin and Sandy Budniewski, and granddaughter of Henry and Gertrude Walas and Ann Budniewski.

Connor Farnham, a member of the Fredonia High School Class of 2012. He is the son of Deborah and Roy Farnham.

Hayley Trippy, a member of the Silver Creek High School Class of 2012. She is the daughter of Ben and Tammi Smith, and granddaughter of Lynn and Mike Shanahan and Paul and Karen Trippy.

Kyle Karlstrom, a member of the Silver Creek Class of 2012. He is the son of Traci and James Karlstrom.

Emily Crandall, a graduate of the Brocton High School Class of 2012. Crandall is the daughter of Todd Crandall.

The Nathan George Foundation, Inc., was established to honor the memory of Nathan George, a 2000 graduate of Fredonia High School who lost his life in a car accident in 2009. Funds raised through an annual dinner and softball tournament benefit George's memorial scholarship fund and help support local youth sports programs. Other 2012 recipients: Fredonia Little League, Fredonia 11-12-year-olds all stars, Fredonia girls softball 11-12-year-old all stars, Fredonia Wrestler, NCSA soccer, Dunkirk Cheerleaders, Dunkirk Little League, Dunkirk Boosters, Silver Creek Cheerleaders and the Southern Tier Brewers.
