FORESTVILLE - Forestville village board members were able to take a trip back into their childhood as Recreation Director Haley Martin gave a presentation at the recent board meeting about the summer recreation program.

Martin explained the program which started at 1 p.m. and ended at 4 p.m. A total of 66 children signed up and average attendance was 36. The highest attendance was 50 kids with the least being 26 on days where it rained or was extremely hot. Each day the children would receive a free lunch, make a craft and also have a snack before leaving for the day.

"This year we didn't have as many kids sign up for the program, but we did have more regular attendance," Martin said.

New this year were courtesy coupons. Each counselor had one coupon to give away each day and the children could turn in these coupons for raffle tickets for prizes.

"It was a way of encouraging good behavior," Martin said. "It cut down on a lot of the bad behavior from last year."

The children also went on four field trips throughout the summer. The trips were to Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Cen-ter, the Chautauqua County Fair, Just Pets in Irving and the Niagara Aquarium. The lowest attended field trip was the county fair due to it rained on the day they went.

"I just wanted to thank everyone for the opportunity to do this. I met a lot of great kids and had a lot of fun," Martin said.

Mayor Charles Brewster also announced the fire department needs new turnout gear, repairs to a truck and a new 30-foot ladder or new climbing gear due to new regulations.

"We need to review our fire contract and budget," he said.

Brewster also reminded residents the curfew is at 9:30 p.m. for anyone under the age of 18. Residents are also asked to be conscious about vehicle break-ins and mail box damages within the village.
