In a quest to offer up a unique take on some straight-up rock 'n' roll, The Noble Hearts have released their debut recording, an EP entitled "Songs from the Cadillac Jukebox."
The Chautauqua County-based band is comprised of Steven D. Haynes (drums and percussion), Art Hazer (bass) and Doug Osborne-Coy (vocals and guitar). Formed in September 2011, the goal of the band was to write and record their own songs.
"We're not looking to revolutionize music or take it to a new frontier," Osborne-Coy said. "We're just offering our take on the sounds we love."
The Noble Hearts are, from left, Art Hazer (bass), Doug Osborne-Coy (vocals and guitar) and Steven D. Haynes (drums and percussion).
That mission was accomplished on Aug. 1 with the independent release of "Songs from the Cadillac Jukebox." The six-song EP was recorded at Gallery Acoustics in North Collins last May.
The Noble Hearts guitar-driven sound has been described as a collision between American roots rock and blues-based British rock. Guitars offer open-string power chords against dynamic bass lines and driving drum parts. The songs themselves are "odes to life, love and things that make the world go around."
"There are a limited number of notes and a limited number of themes that work when it comes to our kind of rock 'n' roll," Osborne-Coy said. "It's really all a matter of how you use them and abuse them and no one abuses them quite the way we do."
The tunes on "Songs from the Cadillac Jukebox" range from upbeat rockers like "Knockin' on the Door" and "Wild Irish Rose" to the Rolling Stones-tinged "Way Too Long" to the brooding "Roll That Stone."
The EP is available online through CD Baby, Amazon and iTunes and locally at Cool Little Music Shop, 65 W. Main St. in Fredonia.
The band will be performing live on Sunday at the Bradley Bates Benefit, which runs from noon to 5 p.m. at the Fireman's Club, 23 Jackson St. in Silver Creek. The Noble Hearts are scheduled to play at 3:30 p.m.
