JAMESTOWN The Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet (CRYB) will hold auditions for its annual production of The Nutcracker on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 1-5 p.m. at the CRYB studio, 9 Falconer St., in Jamestown.
The timeless tale of The Nutcracker is presented annually at the historic Reg Lenna Civic Center and has become a holiday season tradition throughout the region.
Auditions for the 2012 production are open to dancers of all ages according to the following schedule:

The party scene of The Nutcracker’s Act I. This scene provides an opportunity for dancers of all experience levels to participate, including adults who are needed as party moms and dads.
1 p.m. - Adults and older teens for party scene guest
1:15 - Boys all ages no experience necessary
1:45 - Girls ages 6 7 no experience necessary
2:15 - Girls ages 8 10 with dance experience
2:45 - Girls ages 10 14 with dance experience
3 p.m. - Advanced Dancers pointe required for girls
Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of your time to fill out audition form. Expect possible waiting time depending on length of audition segments. Above ages are approximate be prepared to possibly stay for the following time slot if asked. Audition fee for non-CRYB students is $5.
CRYB Artistic Director Monika Alch notes that anyone may audition, regardless of dance experience. "Obviously, preference will be given to those with a stronger dance foundation, especially for the more challenging roles," she notes. "But there are many arts available for those with limited to no dance experience."
Performance dates for The Nutcracker are Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. In addition there will be a morning performance for schools on Friday the 14th. For more information, contact CRYB at 716/664-9766 or visit their website at www.cryb.net
The Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet (CRYB) is a not-for-profit organization that provides high-quality classical ballet instruction to youth from Chautauqua County and the surrounding region. CRYB production two annual productions - a community performance of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker each December and a studio performance featuring classic ballet movements each spring.
