Twenty years ago - 1992

Cassadaga's Maple Avenue public works barn is, according to a federal OSHA inspector, "the worst in the whole area." The official who made an unannounced inspection reported the building to be in very poor condition. At present, the village uses the barn to store its supply of salt for snow and ice control.

Thirty years ago - 1982

George B. Weaver, president of Fredonia Seed Co., will receive the Distinguished Service Award from the College Foundation of Fredonia State University College at a banquet on Sept. 25. Active in the community, Mr. Weaver is past president of both the Dunkirk-Fredonia Kiwanis Club and the Chautauqua County YMCA. Other recipients of the Distinguished Service Award that night will be Roger Tory Peterson and Rolland E. Kidder.

Forty years ago - 1972

Preliminary registration figures indicate the fall enrollment at Fredonia State University College will be about 5,300, which is above last fall's 5,129 figure, but somewhat below projections.

Fifty years ago - 1962

In the September-October issue of "Today," a bi-monthly magazine for home worship, there is a series of meditations by Miss Muriel Edana Adams of 5 Brigham Road, Fredonia. Miss Adams, now retired, formerly taught social sciences in Peru and West Valley High Schools.
