It is a school showcase, of sorts, today in the city.
Dunkirk High School is holding a "Meet and Greet" event from 2 to 4 p.m. that will allow community members, parents and guardians to tour the improved facilities on Sixth Street. A big part of those upgrades include a gym, fitness center, the turf field and the swimming pool, which has been in use for more than a year.
"We really want the community to come in and take a look at the school because so much of the construction is done now," said Steve O'Brien, Dunkirk High principal.
For years, Dunkirk's school district missed the boat on school improvements that had been taking place around Western New York due to voter discontent. In 2008, that changed with the approval of a major capital project.
Today, everyone can see - and be proud of - what has changed and improved at the region's largest district.
