Markie John put forth a Herculean effort to lead Gowanda past Fredonia, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20, 25-13, Friday in CCAA Division 1 volleyball at Fredonia Central School.
John tallied 24 kills, 24 aces and four blocks as the Lady Panthers shrugged off a first set loss and bounced back to win the next three.
"She's a good volleyball player," Fredonia coach Chris Anderson said of John. "She does good things on the court."

Jenn Stebbins contributed three kills and three digs while C.J. Sawatis dished out 11 assists in the win.
Fredonia (1-4, 0-1) was led by Maddy Crandall's 12 assists and three aces. Margaret Wright added four kills and nine digs and Makenzie Tarnowski tallied three kills, a pair of blocks and five digs.
"Gowanda's always been a very good defensive team," Anderson added. "We knew that going in. It's very hard to get kills against Gowanda. They will dig everything and anything that you put up at them."
Fredonia returns to action Wednesday at Southwestern.

OLEAN - Lacey Clark's nine assists and two blocks were not enough as the Dunkirk Lady Marauders fell to the Olean Lady Huskies (1-0, 2-0), 25-12, 25-18, 25-15, Friday in CCAA Division 1 girls' high school volleyball.
Khee Nance contributed with nine kills, four blocks and two digs while Sarah Hanlon added two aces, four kills, three blocks and seven digs in a losing effort.
The Lady Huskies were led by Bri Spears' 27 assists, four digs and two kills.

Silver Creek 18 14 22
SILVER CREEK - Cattaraugus-Little Valley's dynamic duo of Sarah Crandall and Katelynn Nye was too much for Silver Creek to handle as the Black Knights dropped three straight sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-22, Friday in CCAA Division 2 volleyball.
Allison Hartford led Silver Creek with four kills, four digs and six aces and Jordan Brooks added two kills and four blocks, but it wasn't enough for the Black Knights (0-2) to get their first win of the season.
