SILVER CREEK The North County Satellite of the Chautauqua Area Habitat for Humanity is about to embark on its fourth home project in Silver Creek.
A generous donation of land on Parkway Street has made this all possible.
There will be an informational meeting about plans for the construction of a new home at 57 Parkway St., Silver Creek at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Parish Hall of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Parkway Street.
Information about the home itself, how a family will be selected for the home and about Habitat for Humanity's work in Chautauqua County will be provided. All interested people are invited to attend.
Chautauqua Area Habitat for Humanity works to provide working families with simple, decent, affordable homes that are energy efficient and environmentally responsible. Families selected to become family partners provide up to 500 hours of "sweat equity" and they repay a zero-interest mortgage that covers the costs of materials and supplies used in building the house.
Volunteer labor is used for almost all aspects of construction, so progress on the house appears slow. However, considering that volunteers usually work only on Saturday mornings and occasionally on a week day, the time spent actually working on the house is comparable to standard construction.
Volunteers are needed for all aspects of work, including construction, community outreach, family selection and support. If anyone is interested, please call 934-9543 for more information.
