Fredonia's first-year coach Cathy Cruever is really starting to like her defense.

When asked if she thinks it will be a strength, Cruever said, "Oh yeah, I really do. I have a really strong back line."

Fredonia’s Brigette Boetcher (12) and a Panama player look to gain control of the ball during Monday’s non-league girls’ high school soccer game.

That was on display Monday as the Lady Hillbillies (2-0) blanked the Panama Lady Panthers, 2-0, in a non-league girls' high school soccer game.

Sarah Cruever opened the scoring eight minutes into the game off a corner kick from Emily Mackinnon.

"It was a perfectly placed corner kick and Sarah knocked it in the back of the net," the coach said.

Kirsta Wheelock netted Fredonia's second goal as Ally Gullo was credited with the assist.

Alayna Szot made three saves in net during the first half, and Bre Dahn made one save in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Fredonia opens its CCAA Division 1 portion of the schedule Wednesday when it hosts Falconer at 4:30 p.m.
