OBSERVER Staff Report

An ever-improving Dunkirk girls' tennis team couldn't hang with Olean (1-1) and dropped the CCAA Division 1 match, 4-1, Monday at Dunkirk High School.

Josalyn Szwebjka was the lone victor for Dunkirk (0-3). She defeated Laura Anderson, 6-2, 6-4 in second singles.

"Josalyn won her first match of the year," Dunkirk coach Greg Catalano said. "She's been having a tough time. She anticipated well. That's what you have to do. She did a nice job of defeating a girl who is also a very good player."

Dunkirk was forced to forfeit first singles after its player became ill and Danielle Dean fell to Olean's Amanda Fox, 6-2, 6-4 in third singles.

In first doubles, Dunkirk's Crystal Buehler and Ally Clement dropped the point to Sounitri Barua and Morgan Smith, 6-0, 6-2.

"The first doubles team just picked up a tennis racket three weeks ago," Catalano said. "They're starting to get an understanding of the strategy."

Olean's Alley Rakus and Brianna Dempsey downed Dunkirk's Sydney Wiant and Diamond Vargas, 6-0, 6-0 in second doubles.

Dunkirk makes the short trip to Fredonia to play the Lady Hillbillies today.
