Mancuso ceremony is today

A plaque in honor of former teacher, coach and Principal John J. Mancuso will be unveiled today at 5 p.m.

The ceremony will take place in the Dunkirk High School Courtyard. SADD's new Memory Garden will also be introduced.

The public is invited to attend. Please use the main entrance on Sixth Street.

Fun-filled activities at NCCR Saturday

WESTFIELD - Perfect Pooch Dog Training and Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue (NCCR) will team up Saturday to celebrate AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day from noon to 5 p.m. at the Rescue, 7540 North Gale St., Westfield.

Activities, information and freebies will be available.

Dogs are encouraged to attend along with the rest of the family. A Chinese auction will benefit NCCR.

The event includes a Try It Out Agility Course, craft sessions and coloring contests for children, experts available all day for free advice, groomers on hand to offer simple services, free AKC information, and tons of prizes to be given throughout the day.

Millennium Parkway topic of Friday meeting

The proposed Millennium Parkway will be the subject of a meeting to be held in City Hall on Friday at 11 a.m. The project would rebuild Talcott Street in Dunkirk's Fourth Ward from Route 60 to Roberts Road. The county's project manager for the rebuild, John Bremmer, will present an update, according to Councilwoman-at-Large Stephanie Kiyak, who called for the workshop meeting. The meeting is for council members to ask questions about the project.

According to Kiyak, the state Department of Transportation is acquiring properties for the project and council will have to give approval for Mayor Anthony J. Dolce to sign certain documents relating to the project.

Flu shot clinic set

Valley Pharmacy & Medical Supplies, 31 W. Main St., Gowanda, will hold a flu shot clinic Sept. 20 from 2 to 6 p.m.

This clinic is sponsored by the Cattaraugus County Health Department. Most insurances are accepted; please bring insurance cards.

Barbecue chicken dinner Sunday

The Gowanda Fire Department Rescue 1 and Ladies Auxiliary Company 6 will host a chicken barbecue on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until sold out. The dinner will be held at the Fire Hall, 230 Aldrich St., Gowanda. Dinners are $8.50 for chicken, baked beans, potatoes, salad, dessert and beverage. Half chicken only is $5.50.

Takeouts are available. Proceeds to benefit Rescue 1 and the Ladies Auxiliary.

Horsin' Around Bingo Saturday in Gowanda

The Gowanda Fire Department will hold Horsin' Around Bingo on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. at the fire hall. Tickets are $15. The winning square wins $1,000 and the side four neighbors win $150.

All proceeds will benefit the Gowanda Firefighters and Ladies Auxiliary.
