OBSERVER?Staff Report

SILVER CREEK - The Silver Creek Black Knights (1-2, 1-1) were the victims of a momentum swing Thursday in a 3-1 loss to Allegany-Limestone (1-1, 1-1) in CCAA Division 2 boys' high school soccer.

Trailing 2-1 at the 60th minute, Silver Creek's Evan Ward was issued a penalty kick. His shot was saved by Allegany-Limestone goalie Dom Conroy which gave the Gators momentum. Five minutes later, Allegany-Limestone's Robbie Higby got a lucky bounce to give the visitors a 3-1 cushion.

"Once they saved it, they got some momentum," Silver Creek coach Eric Johengen said "It was an unfortunate goal to give up. The shot was taken from the side outside the 18 and bent around into the net. My goalie was in good position, it just slipped through his hands. That secured the game for them. It easily could have been 2-2."

Ward scored on a penalty kick in the first half to tie the score, 1-all. Unfortunately for the Black Knights, that was all the offense they could muster.

The Gators' first-half goals were scored by Shawn Dubin and Ben Wallace.

Conroy made six saves for the winning team while Phil Hansen made 11 saves in a losing effort.

Silver Creek returns to action Saturday when it travels to Portville.
