Veterans plan dinner today

The Prisoner of War/Missing In Action Association of Dunkirk will be holding a sloppy joe dinner fund-raiser this afternoon at St. John's United Church of Christ, 733 Central Ave.

The event will be from 2 to 6 p.m. with proceeds going toward placing a light on the POW/MIA stone at Memorial Park. Tickets are $8 at the door.

Steger Apartments Latino heritage celebration

The residents of the Steger Apartments are sponsoring a celebration of Latin heritage today. The event will be held in the community room and will start at 4 p.m.

There will be free food and music. Live entertainment will be by the New Millennium Trio. They will perform various types of music including salsa, merengue, jazz, karaoke and more.

The event is open to all residents of Steger Apartments and they may bring a guest. The event is free. For more information, contact Linda at 915-637-7221.

Large trash collection today in Portland

Portland Town Supervisor Dan Schrantz would like residents to be reminded that a large trash collection will take place today, Sept. 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Village of Brocton Tool House site on Highland Avenue.

Residents may check with the town clerk's office or the Village of Brocton clerk's office or streets department for specifics on disposal material and prices.
