GOWANDA - Jessica Sowa had a fine performance in helping the Gowanda Lady Panthers (2-4, 2-5) to a 4-1 victory over Dunkirk.
Sowa won her first singles match, 6-2, 6-1 over Joslyn Szwejbka.
"She had some nice forehand winners," Gowanda coach Andy Bobseine said. "She is beginning to control each point. She is gaining confidence and I'm looking forward to rest of the season with her."
In second singles, Gowanda's Brittnee Stelley squeaked out a win over Christina Aviles, 6-1, 7-5 while in third singles, Dunkirk's Danielle Dean (D) d. Jessica Sperling 6-1, 6-2.
In first doubles, Gowanda's Alayana Swartz and Kelsey Herniman defeated Ally Clement and Crystal Muller, 6-1, 6-1. In second doubles, Johnny Accordino and Brianna Chupa were victorious over Diamond Vargas and Jasmine Echevarria, 6-2, 6-1.
Gowanda returns to action today when it hosts Falconer.
Fredonia 5, Jamestown 0
The Fredonia Hillbillies (6-1, 5-1) made a strong case for being the second best team in CCAA Division 1 girls' high school tennis Wednesday with a convincing 5-0 victory over a tough Jamestown (3-4, 3-3) squad.
Baylee Tarnowski continued her stellar season with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Jamestown's Abby Whisner in first singles. Georgianna Gens also improved her record in second singles with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Chloe Napp. In third singles, Fredonia's Lauren Millson took down Hannah Silzle, 6-3, 6-4.
In first doubles, Dana Wirojratana and Marina Kessler handled Morgan Deppas and Kim Crasti, 6-1, 6-0.
Fredonia hosts Maple Grove on Friday.
