Vault event raises the bar

September 21, 2012
The OBSERVER

Bring those lawn signs back out. Saturday is going to be a historic day in the village of Fredonia.

At 5 p.m. in Barker Common, the community is invited to share in the success and achievements of hometown hero and gold medal winner Jennifer Suhr. The festivities will include a pole-vaulting event and is the first of a three-stop tour by the world champ.

Julie Essek, a member of the Fredonia Olympic Committee, asks that in honor of the event, residents should place their Suhr "yard signs back in their yards for the week in honor of her homecoming." She also told WDOE-AM that if residents do not have a sign, they can fly the American flag to show support.

Following the vaulting, Suhr is expected to autograph posters for fans.

"I am really excited about the event," she said. "It isn't often that you get to put on a show for the people who have supported you all this time."
