Melissa Ann Fabritius and Nicholas Timothy VerHague, both of Winston-Salem, N.C., were united in marriage on July 21, 2012, at 5 p.m. The double-ring ceremony was held at Templeton Landing, on the waterfront in downtown Buffalo. Kristin Suto performed the ceremony. Music was provided by Debra Remson, violinist, and Kevin Duncan, cellist.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Fabritius of Fredonia. She is the granddaughter of Ann Fabritius of Fredonia. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dana VerHague of Forestville. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Tofil of Forestville and Rose VerHague of Forestville.
The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a custom ivory, full lace sequin-beaded gown with a scalloped sweetheart neckline. The fitted gown had cap sleeves, a keyhole back, and a trumpet skirt with a court train. It was worn with a champagne sash with an ivory flower and sheer veil with crystal detailing. She carried a bouquet of green cymbidium orchids.

Serving as matron of honor was the bride's sister, Amy Szwejbka of Hampstead, N.C., and the maid of honor was the bride's sister, Amanda Fabritius of Wilmington, N.C. Bridesmaids were cousins of the bride, Scotia Kirkham of East Aurora and Rachel Hecker of Carpentersville, Ill., and friends of the bride, Erin Sherwood of Chicago, Christy Muck of Cherry Creek and Kimberly Bernosky-Smith of Kenmore. They wore green, floor-length chiffon gowns with flowers along the left shoulder and carried yellow mini calla lilies. The flower girl was niece of the bride, Evelyn Szwejbka of Hampstead.
The best man was brother of the groom, Nathan VerHague of Orchard Park. Groomsmen were friends of the groom, Phil Smaldino of Winston-Salem, Garret Bentham of Tonawanda, Jeremy Lucca of Brooklyn, brother of the bride Ryan Fabritius of Wilmington, and brother-in-law of the bride Andrew Szwejbka of Hampstead. The ring bearer was nephew of the bride Brody Szwejbka of Hampstead.
The reception was held in the Grand Ballroom at Templeton Landing, while the cocktail hour was held on the upper outdoor patio overlooking the marina.
The bride is a graduate of Forestville High School, University at Buffalo, and is currently completing her Ph.D. in molecular pathology at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.
The groom is a graduate of Forestville High School, Winston-Salem State University, and is currently completing the MBA program at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina.
The couple honeymooned in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. They live in Winston-Salem.
