Arnold scholarship seeks students with passion for performing arts

September 26, 2012
The OBSERVER

The Northern Chautau-qua Community Foundation announces the establishment of the Douglas K. Arnold Memorial Scholar-ship Fund.

One of the oldest misconceptions about scholarships is that recipients have a high GPA. This is not always the case. In establishing The Douglas K. Arnold Memor-ial Scholarship Fund, its founders recognized that "while Doug was not strong academically, he was extremely gifted in the performing arts."

As a legacy to Arnold, candidates should possess his passion for theater and music. Arnold started acting in school plays while in middle school and performed in numerous bands throughout his life.

This scholarship fund's recipients must have a minimum of two years of in-school musical, choral, or thespian performances and be a graduating senior at Fredonia High School.

Arnold passed away on July 4, 2012, leaving behind his wife, Leah, and two daughters, Rachel and Elizabeth. As a graduate of Fredonia High School Class of 1978, Arnold was remembered for his high school musicals, smiles and generous spirit. In remembering Arnold on his memorial page, a friend commented, "When I think of Doug, I think of music, what a beautiful song was he."

Donations are always welcomed for The Douglas K. Arnold Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, 212 Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk, or online at www.nccfoundation.org.
