National School Backpack Awareness

National School Backpack Awareness Day is held every September. Occupational therapy practitioners are educating pupils in schools.

Border Patrol agents lace up for relay

Eleven off duty U.S. Border Patrol agents from different stations within Buffalo Sector will be competing in a 24-hour race through 200 miles of the Adirondack Mountains for charity Friday and Saturday.

The Ragnar Relay Series race, which challenges even the most elite runners, will start at the Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, skirt along the Hudson River, pass through the Lake George region, up the southern side of Lake Champlain and end in Lake Placid, the home of two Winter Olympic Games.

The official charity for the event is Adirondacks Moun-tain Club, a nonprofit organization that protects wild lands and waters throughout the Adirondack region.

Parks Commission

to meet Thursday

The Chautauqua County Parks Commission will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Chautauqua County Airport - Jamestown. The public is welcome to attend.

Water main repair Thursday

The Dunkirk Public Works Department is advising residents in the city and town of Dunkirk on Route 5 from Stegelske Avenue to the Dunkirk Conference Center that a water main is being repaired Thursday.

Residents in the affected area will have low water pressure, or no water, Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Forestville Middle/High School Open House

The Forestville Middle/-High School will hold its Open House Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

All parents and students are invited to come and visit the classrooms, meet the teachers and tour the school.

Student Council members will be assisting with the evening activities.
