WESTFIELD - Bring furry, feathered or finned friends to St. Peter's Blessing of the Animals. All God's creatures, along with their human owners, are invited to attend Thursday's worship service at 5:30 p.m. for the Blessing of the Animals at St. Peter's. The blessing is being held in conjunction with the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.
St. Francis is remembered as the patron saint of animals and the environment. Born in Italy in 1182, he was noted for his commitment to justice and deep love of all creation. Francis died on Oct. 3, 1226. The church celebrates his life and ministry each year on Thursday.
Best pet behavior and leashes are especially encouraged. Cats, dogs, birds, frogs and all pets great and small, regardless of denomination, are welcomed. All who attend are encouraged to bring a donation of dog or cat food to support a local animal food pantry.
There's no doubt that pets enrich the lives of their families. Don't miss this opportunity to acknowledge that special relationship. For more information, contact St. Peter's in Westfield at 326-2064 or visit www.stpeterswestfieldny.org.
