FORESTVILLE - Pine Valley (1-4) earned its first win of the season with a 26-21 win over Forestville (0-5), Saturday in Class DD high school football.
The first quarter was a scoring frenzy for both sides.
Jake Nosbisch got Forestville off to a quick start with his 56-yard touchdown strike to Ryan Forbes to open the scoring.
Nosbisch finished with 166 yards through the air and a pair of scores.
Pine Valley responded quickly with a drive that was capped by a 12-yard touchdown from Dan Weaver to Lucas Trombley.
Weaver was 6 of 11 passing for 55 yards a two touchdowns.
"It was pretty much everything we saw on tape," Forestville coach Scot Greenough said of Pine Valley's offense. "They executed well."
The Hornets' offense executed well too as Nosbisch connected with Caleb Makuch for a 76-yard quick strike that gave Forestville the lead 14-6.
"It's the best offensive out we've had," Greenough added. "We ran the ball fairly well, but Pine Valley put pressure on us in the passing game. I would have liked to throw more, but they put pressure on us and covered up nicely in the secondary."
Pine Valley closed the gap before the first quarter came to a close on Josh Kilburn's 3-yard run.
The second quarter belonged the Panthers, who scored on a 23-yard run from Kilburn and an 11-yard touchdown pass from Weaver to Trombley to take a 26-14 lead at the half.
The scoring all but halted in the second half as both defenses made adjustments.
"Early on, we each got some big plays," Greenough pointed out. "As it wore on, we got used to what each other was running. There's weren't many big plays in the second half."
The lone score of the second half came courtesy of Nate Maines, who scored from 35 yards out to bring Forestville within one score.
