Unserviceable flags were retired in a ceremony Saturday morning at the firemen’s training site on Brigham Road in Dunkirk. Dunkirk Memorial Post 62, 211 Central Ave. and the Acquavia Post 1344 on Lake Shore Drive cooperated in this effort. Pictured left to right are: Volunteer firefighter Devon Freitas of Ladder One in Dunkirk, Sam Gerace, commander of the Acquavia Post and Jeff Novelli, second vice commander of the post who acted as chaplain. Others who participated in the ceremony prior to the actual burning were: County Commander John Miga; Post 62 Vice Commander Craig Sutton and; Butch Piglowski, Commander of Post 62 who acted as Sergeant-at-Arms. Career Fireman Joseph Kucharski (Local 616) also assisted at the scene.
