St. Francis Day animal blessing to be held today

All pets and owners are invited to a commemoration of St. Francis Day with a blessing of the animals on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 12:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church.

St. Francis of Assisi, born of rich parents, once a playboy, after a transformation started to feed the poor. Changing his lifestyle, St. Francis gave up worldly goods, reached out to the needy and became a friend to the animals.

The blessing will be held in front of the church on the corner of West Fourth and Lark streets in Dunkirk. In case of rain, the blessing will move inside of the church. All pets and owners invited.

North County Office Building parking lot closed Monday

The parking lot adjacent to the North County Office Building on the 300 block of Central Avenue in Dunkirk will undergo maintenance work and re-striping on Monday, Oct. 8 (Columbus Day). It is requested that all vehicles be removed from the lot between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on that day.

Cassadaga hydrants will be flushed on Oct. 8

Street Supervisor Thomas Fetter has announced the hydrants in the village will be flushed on Monday Oct. 8, beginning at 7 a.m. Water customers may notice roily water. He explained that the process is meant to freshen the water.
