In light of the past five years of budget reform, layoffs and foreclosures in this country, many have suffered as our government continues to remain out of touch.
The economy alone should be priority enough to examine frivolities including holidays such as Columbus Day or for that matter Presidents Day. The point is that no one to date, I'm aware of, has donned a Columbus costume or the presidents mentioned.
One might see such a display in the advertising genre or a theater production.
I'm concerned with Americans who struggle on every level for just basic needs. I would be curious to know what a city, municipality, county or state budgets for these pointless, expensive holidays and furthermore what they are costing us, the taxpayer? I find these expenditures costly and unnecessary at the same time.
I'm confident as one reads on that the argument could be made that I might enjoy the opportunity of a paid day off. Of course! But I'm afraid that's really not the point. It seems to me that our politicians carry on about reform, belt tightening and cutting costs!
Well here's a good place to start. We can no longer afford some of these ridiculous expenditures. I realize many work on these particular days as I do with a business that I operate. I say let's start somewhere and at least eliminate these non-productive holidays and direct our resources to programs that will truly benefit all people.
