Twenty years ago - 1992

About $7,000 was raised for operating expenses after 150 items were auctioned off during the second annual telethon/auction to benefit the Dunkirk Free Library. Fundraising efforts will continue with this year's goal pegged at $15,000. Last year, about $12,000 was raised through December. Upcoming fundraising efforts include a flea market, donation canisters to be set up at various locations in Dunkirk and the acceptance of donations at the library.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Though not all local and area drug stores have cleared their shelves of Extra-Strength Tylenol, CVS Pharmacy in the Bells Plaza in Dunkirk has emptied its counters of the drug following the deaths of five people in the Chicago area.

Forty years ago - 1972

TV entertainer Johnny Carson surprised an audience of Hollywood celebrities following the completion of taping his 10th Anniversary TV Show when he revealed that he and 32-year-old Joanna Holland were married earlier in Santa Monica. Carson is 46.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Mitchell Shapiro of Point Drive North, Dunkirk has left for Chicago where he is a student at the University of Chicago Law School.
