Gas prices rise

Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have risen 2.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $4.06/g Sunday. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.80/g.

Hanover to host historical speaker on bricks

The Hanover History Center program on "Bricks and Brick Collecting" by Frank Clement of Orchard Park will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Hanover Town Hall, Hanover Street, Silver Creek (off Route 20).

Clement has accumulated the second largest collection of bricks in the world - more than 7,500. His collection includes bricks with many kinds of pictures and names - like Abraham Lincoln bricks, a unique brick with Mark Twain's image, bricks with Indian tribal names, bricks made by slaves, ancient bricks from Rome and bricks from countries like Egypt, Thailand, and England.

There will be a presentation on the history of Western New York brick companies and see the named bricks they made. Dunkirk, Jamestown, Silver Creek, and other communities will be covered.

Refreshments will be served.

Library trustees meet Wednesday

The board of trustees of the Chautauqua-Cattarau-gus Library System will meet Wednesday at the Old Library Events & Inn, 116 S. Union St., Olean, at the conclusion of the system's annual meeting, which begins at 6 p.m.

Forestville cancels special meeting

The Village of Forestville has canceled its special meeting originally set for Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Nate Shinagawa

to appear on Senior Report Saturday

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Nate Shinagawa as the guest on Saturday's television program. Shinagawa is the Democratic candidate for Congress for the new 23rd congressional district. The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m and 8 p.m for some communities.

The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest.

The guest is subject to change.
