GOWANDA - Helen F. DeCarlo, age 90, of Perry St. Gowanda passed away Monday, October 8, 2 012 at the Eden Heights Retirement facility which she had
called home since February of 2011.
Born January 23, 1922 in Pittsburgh Pa. the daughter of the late George and Anna (Ciglar) Mikluscak. Helen married 1st Lt Joseph Fedor May 10, 1941 in Puerto Rico. In 1944 Joseph was killed in action during WWII. He was 28.
On Nov. 25 1948 in Uniontown, Pa., Helen married Joseph A. DeCarlo. They were married for 59 years before his death Nov. 19, 2007.
Helen worked as a Therapy Aide for the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center.
Her state employment spanned for more than 20 years.
Helen was a member of St. Joseph's RC Church in Gowanda, serving on the church's Mothers Club and the Altar and Rosary Society. Helen was an active member of Gowanda Central School Board in the 1980s and served as Past President of the school board. She also was a member of the American Legion Post 409 Ladies Auxillary.
Survivors include four sons, William (Jane) Fedor of Perrysburg, Dale (Deborah) DeCarlo of Gowanda, Leonard (Pamela Morgan) DeCarlo of New Wilmington, Pa., and James (Paula) DeCarlo of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Jill, William, Todd, Anthony, Joseph, Christopher, Kevin, Victoria, and James; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Catherine, Gillian, Coen, Henry and Cole. Helen is also survived by a brother Andrew Mikluscak of Bedford, OH, two sisters, Margaret Nicowski of Annapolis Md. and Delores Hickle of Uniontown, Pa., along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and two husbands Helen is preceded in death by a daughter Elizabeth Ann Fedor (she is buried in
Puerto Rico), brothers Anthony, George, John, Joseph Mikluscak, sisters Agnes
Almes, Sister Mary Borgia Mikluscak and Ann Varndell.
Friends may call at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St. Gowanda, NY (716) 532-4200 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2012. Helen's funeral will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Joseph's RC Church 73 East Main St. Gowanda (gather at
church). Interment to follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery Gowanda, Rev. Daniel Walsh officiating.
