Twenty years ago - 1992

Nelson Capital Development Inc. invites the public to the grand opening of the Collins Manor at West Main Street in Ripley. The Collins Manor is a New York State-subsidized elderly housing complex to serve independent, low-income persons 62 years old or older. The two-story building consists of 24 apartment units.

Thirty years ago - 1982

The new bridge on the Versailles Plank Road has been completed and is in use by local traffic. It is expected to be opened officially within a month after all guard rails are installed. The new bridge replaces a single-lane bridge that was closed to vehicle traffic for three years, requiring travelers to take an alternate route to Lawtons via Route 62.

Forty years ago - 1972

William C. Kinner, who last year had the distinction of cutting down the 132-foot wooden flagpole at Memorial Park in Dunkirk has been hired by the city as a tree expert. He operates Kinner Landscaping and Tree Surgery at 35 East Sixth St.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Lance Madden, a senior at Dunkirk High School, has been designated the Outstanding Teenager of the Week in area high schools. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Madden, 309 Robin St., Dunkirk.
