Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corporation (CHRIC) has grant funds available to help very low-income seniors with smaller emergency repairs. The funds were awarded by New York State Homes and Community Renewal to assist seniors throughout Chautauqua County.
Eligible seniors must live in Chautauqua County, be over age 60, own the home, live in it year-round, and be current on their property taxes. The existing situation must pose a health or safety threat and must be able to be repaired for less than $7,500. In addition, the following income guidelines apply: family of one - $19,950; family of two - $22,800; family of three - $25,650; family of four - $28,450. Adjustments continue to be made as family size increases.
These funds can be used to complete small emergency repairs. Examples of small emergency repairs include repair or replacement of a dangerous or non-functional furnace, correcting sewage backups, bathroom safety modifications, step/stair repair, repair or replacement of appliances that are presenting a danger, and many other smaller repairs. Repairs that cost in excess of $7,500 are not eligible.
