LAKEWOOD - Chautauqua Lake's Samantha Robbins and Dori Ruff pulled off an impressive upset Thursday in the CCAA County Tennis Championships at the Lakewood YMCA to advance to today's semifinals.
After defeating Gowanda's Kelly Konwiczka and Kelsey Herniman, 10-1, Robbins and Ruff knocked off Salamanca's Seneca Hofbauer and Allison Revetti, 6-0, 6-0. In the final round of the day, Robbins and Ruff upset the top seeded team of Heidi Mueller and Morgan Johnson from Southwestern, 7-6(7-4), 6-3.
Fredonia's Georgianna Gens and Lauren Millson fell in the third round to Emily Hair and Rosemarie Molem 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Gens and Millson advanced to the third round by defeating Maple Grove's Paige Bentham and Christina Walter, 7-5, 6-4.
Gowanda's Jessica Sowa and Britnee Stelley defeated Fredonia's Cheyanne Gifford and Sarah Zinni, 10-3 in the opening round.
Dunkirk's Jos Szwejbka and Ashle Rojas fell in the first round to Salamanca's Seneca Hofbauer and Allison Revetti, 10-5
Chautauqua Lake's Charity Ludwig and Jenelle Senske won their first-round match over Olean's Joce Eade and Smith, 10-6, but lost in the second round to Abby Whisner and Chloe Knapp.
Fredonia's Dana Wirojratana and Marina Kessler downed Chautauqua Lake's Megan Stahlsmith and Emilie Christie, 10-4 in the first round, but fell to Maple Grove's Corinne Cardinale and Holly Lehman in the second round, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
