GOWANDA - The Hollywood Theater may receive more funding to help with renovations within the village.

The village board held its annual Community Development Block Grant public hearing at the latest board meeting. Sal Dicembre was the only resident to speak during the public hearing. He spoke on behalf of the Hollywood Theater.

"We would like (the village) to put us on your (CDBG) list," he said. "We'd like to do HVAC work."

According to Dicembre, the work in the theater is 55 percent completed. Once the work is 85 percent completed, the theater will open once renovations are 85 percent completed. The goal is to have the work completed by 2014.

Following the public hearing, the village board had to rank the top three projects they would like to apply the CDBG funding toward.

"Our job will be to put a list together for our top three," Mayor Heather McKeever said.

The top three projects the village suggested for CBDG funding were the Hollywood Theater, an early warning system for the village and rural transit program. The early warning system for the village will include a siren throughout the village if a natural disaster were to happen. The rural transit program is a program the village has applied in the past for CDBG funds.
