The third grade students at A.J. Schmidt were treated to a field trip on Oct. 2. Students traveled, bright and early, to the Erie County Fairgrounds for an engaging and educational program called "Farm to Table." The children in Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Ware, and Mrs. Scholl's classrooms followed a schedule of events, that included hands-on activities, such as making "corn plastic," sorting monocot and dicot seeds, and identifying the nutritional value of many common foods. The field trip even included real farm animals. Students were able to touch ducks, cows and goats as they learned facts about these animals from the many volunteers at the Fair. Upon departure, the lucky third-graders were presented with goody bags, that included free tickets to the fair.
