Editor, OBSERVER:
So, County Executive Greg Edwards along with his gang of anti-Home legislators, including Jay Gould, Republican Legislature Chairman from Ashville, are moving forward. I would hope and suggest that all the people - regardless of party come Election Day - defeat them. Do not give them one more day in office to destroy the County Home!
We also had the sad experience in Dunkirk of waiting too long to defeat pro-urban renewal and low-income housing advocates. Unfortunately for us, their defeat came too late. A simple walk through Dunkirk today will be self-explainable. These people in our County Home need our help. Don't let it come too late!
One other things I would like to comment on. The coming election for the 150th State Assembly seat. One of the candidates is Andy Goodell and he is honest as the day is long (he is one person in politics who if he had ever been to my house it would not be necessary to count the silverware when he left).
I would like to give some thought to his opponent Rudy Mueller. To be honest, I know very little about him. There are two things about him I do know. One, he wants to close the County Home. That tells me he lacks compassion. Two, he even went against his own party to assist in the closing of the County Home. I bet even some of his own party rolled their eyes at that one.
I would like to give Joe Carrus a pat on the back for many years of dedication to the people of our City of Dunkirk and our county. Joe, in your letter to the People's Column on Oct. 7 you said your investigation of the Home revealed the possibility exists that the legislators have no legal right to sell the home.
Has the County Legislative a clear title to the land and building? Greg Edwards so far has refused to answer. The legal consequences of this would be far-reaching.
Joe went to the county meeting to present his information to Greg Edwards. Joe is in his late 90s and confined to a wheelchair.
