City urging caution, common sense

October 29, 2012
The OBSERVER

The city of Dunkirk Police, Fire and Public Works departments are recommending that all residents pay attention to developing weather circumstances related to Hurricane Sandy, especially during the 8 p.m. tonight to 8 a.m. Tuesday time frame. If you don't have to travel please stay home. Please treat any downed line as an energized line. Call 911 or the power company to report downed lines.

"We are urging residents to stay away from Lake Front Boulevard and the city pier area. As the intensity of the storm increases we will be closing those areas off to traffic," Police Chief David Ortolano stated. "Again, please avoid these areas during the storm and if barricades are up please do not try and enter. If someone gets stuck or stranded it will tie up valuable resources to get to you.

"Many activities have already been canceled during the time frame of the storm, please pay attention to bulletins and warnings. The cooperation of everyone will help to keep us all safe during this weather event."
