Canadian woman charged in Dunkirk Police car accident
A woman from North Bay, Ont., has been charged following an accident that involved a city police car.
Deborah C. Melkert was charged with failure to yield the right of way on Oct. 27. According to Dunkirk Police, investigator Mark Mathews, 39, was traveling east through the D&F Plaza near Chautauqua Health and Fitness. Melkert told police she did not see the police vehicle before making a left turn, causing her vehicle to strike on the driver side door of the police car.
Mathews was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. The car, recently purchased by the department, is being repaired.

Rafael A. Pagan, 28, of Maple Avenue was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, having no registration and failure to have stop lamps on Oct. 26.
Troy S. Smith, 40, of Deer Street was charged with disorderly conduct Oct. 26 from a previous charge.
Wanda I. Ortiz, 35, of Central Avenue was charged with violating the noise ordinance on Oct. 27.
Norman I. Geddis of Lincoln Avenue was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated Oct. 27.
Danielle N. Payne, 22, of Brooks Avenue was charged with harassment Oct. 28 with a bench warrant.
Bethany L. Patterson, 20, of Lincoln Avenue was charged with violating the noise ordinance and disorderly conduct on a bench warrant and obstruction of governmental administration on Oct. 29.

at Jamestown
ELLICOTT - On Friday, troopers charged Alexander Haas, 23, of Salamanca for unlawful possession of marijuana.
An officer reportedly smelled marijuana as Haas was passing through a road check on Route 60. The trooper searched Haas' vehicle and reportedly located two grams of marijuana.
Haas was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Ellicott Court.
ELLICOTT - On Friday, troopers charged Miranda Near, 19, of Jamestown for unlawful possession of marijuana.
An officer reportedly smelled marijuana as Near was passing through a road check on Route 60. Near was found to be in possession of a bag containing two grams of marijuana.
She was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charge in Ellicott Court.
On Saturday, Douglas Baker, 27, of Cherry Creek was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Troopers pulled Baker over on Falconer Street for speeding. He reportedly failed several sobriety tests.
Baker was transported to the state police barracks in Jamestown where he provided a breath sample reported to be .13 percent. He was processed, issued tickets, and is scheduled to appear in Jamestown Court.
GERRY - On Saturday, Andrew Blake, 19, of Lakewood was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was pulled over for a traffic violation. The trooper smelled marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. Reportedly Blake had a marijuana pipe and a bag containing one gram of marijuana in his possession.
Blake was issued an appearance ticket.
