Media keeps heat off Obama

October 31, 2012
The OBSERVER

Editor, OBSERVER:

With the help of the liberal news media, covering up for him, President Barack Obama has been able to tell one lie after another. They anointed him as one who can literally walk on water and deserves special treatment.

If there were a criteria to become president, outside of age and place of birth, he would have fallen short. Being a community activist does not fit the prerequisites that should be required for such a critical job. Many of his words and action exemplifies his activist mentality.

One of the reasons for writing this letter is, I am concerned with the coverup in Libya where four of our citizens were murdered by radical Muslims. It has the same rotten smell that reeked after "Black Hawk Down," that occurred, in Somalia, during the Clinton administration. Clinton's secretary of defense denied our troops help they requested as they were being slaughtered by the people they were trying to save.

In Libya help was close enough to possibly save the Americans that included two Navy SEALS who disobeyed orders and gave their lives trying to save the lives of the ambassador and his aide.

One of the reasons, they gave, for not intervening was they said they had to get permission from the Libyan government first. Then Hillary Clinton had the nerve to tell the father of one of the dead SEALS he could blame the person who produced the video that demeaned Muslims for the death of his son. The proud father of the murdered Seal was interviewed on Fox News. He spoke of his son, as do many others, who have sons and daughters risking their lives for what they believe in. He spoke of the demeanor of the president that was contrary to his and the lie Clinton told him.

I have watched CNN, ABC, NBC and up to the time I wrote this article nothing has been mentioned of this betrayal. So I ask you what else can you expect from the liberals and the media they control? One other thing. If it were not for the political gain, Obama would never have given the order to kill Bin Laden.

To all of the Navy SEALS and others who risk their lives for all of us, I apologize for the conduct of the present administration in their lack of sensitivity and priorities.

Romney wrong on 47 percent

Editor, OBSERVER:

The recently released tape of Mitt Romney's remarks that 47 percent of Americans are lazy, victims, don't pay taxes and want to live off the government are not only crude and divisive but they are factually incorrect.

When you subtract the elderly, students, soldiers in combat, the working poor who earn less than $20,000 annually and the disabled, the number who don't pay taxes is closer to 7 percent. By the way, a more dynamic point must be made here.

The group that does more to avoid paying income taxes are the very wealthy. Most of the tax loopholes are for them. The average person does not have the ear of Congress to set up loopholes that will allow the rich to avoid taxes. Mr. and Mrs. Average cannot take an oil depletion allowance, does not live off of capital gains income, cannot donate millions to charity, cannot deduct their horse training as an expense and does not have a group of tax attorneys spending months trying to avoid their fair share.

I suggest that if Romney is seeking tax cheats he should speak to his $50,000 a plate donors and find the serious money. Major American corporations like Exxon and Halliburton steal more with a pencil than all the welfare cheats do with fraud.

I applaud these successful Americans who have done well and pay their fair share. But I detest those who have done well, avoid taxes and then have the audacity to get angry at a single mother on food stamps, or a student who cannot afford their tuition, or the people who cannot afford health insurance.

The arrogance and ego of these 1 percent needs to be noted and let's see if Mr. Romney thinks if they are the America he wants to represent. Oops, that is who he is and therefore why would we expect anything less? You know " birds of a feather" ...

WARREN BEYER,

Mayville
