Fredonia, Silver Creek fall, North Collins wins in Sectional playoffs

LAKEWOOD - Sally Rudny's 13 kills, five aces and one block helped No. 9 Southwestern past No. 16 Fredonia, 25-15, 25-8, 14-25, 25-22, during Section 6 Class C girls' volleyball quarterfinal action at Southwestern, on Wednesday.

"Southwestern played really good defense tonight," Fredonia head coach Chris Anderson said. "They served the ball hard and they were just outstanding in the first two games. We played really well in the third and came back in the fourth and did some good things."

After being down two sets, the Lady Hillbillies cut the deficit to one, before falling in a hard-fought fourth set, ending their season.

"My girls, they never give up, they never let the ball hit the floor," Anderson said. "And to come back and play that set like that was a tribute to what my girls have done all season long."

Also for the Lady Trojans, Jenna Rauh had 10 kills and an ace while Maddy Alexander chipped in with 12 assists, five kills, four aces and a block.

For the Lady Hillbillies, Emily Ludwig had five kills, Margaret Wright charted 12 digs and nine kills, Maddy Crandall had 18 assists and Mackenzie Tarnowski added four kills and three blocks.

Class D-1

Portville 25 25 19 25

Silver Creek 11 17 25 13

PORTVILLE - No. 6 Silver Creek fell to No. 3 Portville, 25-11, 25-17, 19-25, 25-13, Wednesday, during Section 6 Class D-1 girls' volleyball quarterfinal action.

Taylor Lee had 34 assists, three kills and three digs for the Lady Panthers while Shayna Griffin chipped in 21 kills and four aces, Maddie Simon had seven kills and Lydia Lukumski charted seven kills and four digs.

For the Black Knights, Cora Utegg had 19 assists, Ali Harford eight kills and seven digs and Makalah Jones eight digs.

Class D-2

North Collins 25 25 25

Clymer 14 15 32

NORTH COLLINS -Christine Blidy had 20 assists, three kills and three aces to help No. 2 North Collins drop No. 7 Clymer, 25-14, 25-15, 25-21, in a Section 6 Class D-2 quarterfinal Wednesday, at North Collins.

Beth Kibler added seven kills and five aces for the Lady Eagles while Jasmine Filcov chipped in six kills and three aces.

Dani Reinwald led the Lady Pirates with three kills, two digs and two blocks.

North Collins will host No. 6 Sherman today, a 3-0 winner over No. 3 Olmsted, Wednesday, in the other quarterfinal.
