Edward J. Kota

GOWANDA - Edward J. Kota, 97, of Broadway Road, Gowanda passed away Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2012) at his home.

He was born Sept. 13, 1915 in Gowanda, NY the son of the late Frank and Josephine (Jedgez) Kota.

Mr. Kota was married to the former Irene (Siembie-da) Kota, who predeceased him.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Corps in the European Theatre. He had worked at Moench Tanning in Gowanda for over 40 years.

Mr. Kota was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Gowanda VFW Post #5007 and the Gowanda Moose. He was a baseball player with the Gowanda Merchants and also pitched in area softball leagues.

Survivors include a brother, Walter (Jane) Kota of Gowanda, NY and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by four sisters, Jean Smith, Stella Noecker, Caroline Sek and Mary Frankowitz.

Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 East Main Street, Gowanda, NY on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 from 4-7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Gowanda, NY. Burial with military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
