Twenty years ago - 1992

A marching band is the newest activity for middle school students in Fredonia. About 60 students participated in the first performance of the year, the village's annual Halloween parade on Oct. 31. Seventh and eight grade students comprise the unit. The group is being instructed by teachers Donald Keddie and Michael Mallory, who are volunteering their time to the activity.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Organized Aug. 17, 1902, the Young Men's Society of St. Joseph at St. Hyacinth's Church recently observed its 80th anniversary with a corporate Communion and breakfast. The purpose of organizing the society was to unite young men of St. Hyacinth's Parish, increase patriotism and loyalty toward their native land, make them loyal Americans and to help each other in time of need.

Forty years ago - 1972

A new Dads of Foreign Service Veterans post has been instituted in Dunkirk and Richard Timmerman has been elected as president. The new post's number is 245.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Two Dunkirk residents were big winners in the A&P Hidden Treasure game. Mrs. Elton Mitchell of New Road, won 25,000 Plaid Stamps and J. William Murphy of 13 East Green St., won 50,000.
