The OBSERVER

SALAMANCA - The Seneca Nation Health System (SNHS) Health Commission cordially invites members of the Seneca Nation community to a meet-and-greet for the newly-appointed SNHS Chief Executive Officer, Alan Barlow.

The Commission will host members of the community Nov. 14 at 12:30 p.m. in the Lionel R. John Health Center grand room on the Allegany Territory.

Community members will receive an update from the Commission which, after nearly one year in existence, will highlight its accomplishments and outline its goals for the Seneca Nation Health System.

Barlow became the tenth full-time health administrator Oct. 15 following a nationwide search process. His recruitment and subsequent appointment reflect a major accomplishment of the Commission, charged with filling the position. The top post had been filled by acting officials most recently Councilor Darlene Miller since August 2010.

Having served as a human resources director and chief executive officer for several tribal and Indian Health Service (IHS) programs, including CEO of the Tule River Indian Health Center in California and the Fort Yates Indian Hospital in North Dakota, Barlow most recently served as acting deputy director of management operations for the IHS Aberdeen Area Office and brings considerable experience and knowledge to the SNHS organization.

Barlow and the commissioners will facilitate a question-and-answer session during the meet-and-greet event.

The Seneca Nation Health System began as the Seneca Nation Health Department, serving the Seneca community on April 1, 1976. Providing health care services through two health centers - the Lionel R. John Health Center on the Allegany Territory and the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation Health Center on the Cattaraugus Territory - and Community Health and Wellness Centers.
