Bicyclist injured after colliding with tractor trailer

A Dunkirk man was injured when he was hit by a tractor trailer Thursday afternoon on South Roberts Road in the city.

David S. Bak, 54, of Grant Avenue was riding his bicycle on the east side of South Roberts Road traveling north. A tractor trailer driven by Joshua T. Risley, 24, of Gerry was traveling the same direction as Bak. According to Dunkirk Police, Risley stated he saw the bicyclist and as he approached him, moved partially into the oncoming lane as he passed Bak. Risley then looked in his rear view mirror while passing Bak and observed him ride in to the rearmost tire of the vehicle.

David Bak was taken to the hospital after he apparently rode his bicycle into the rear tire of a tractor trailer, causing him to crash.

Bak was ejected from the bicycle and told police he does not remember what happened. He was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Alstar. The extent of his injuries is unknown. No charges have been filed.
