Veterans Day Observance Sunday in Silver Creek

The Silver Creek VFW, Samuel Cimino Post #6472 will observe Veterans Day on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the North Main Street headquarters. Commander Ed Fik will conduct the memorial service. Cub Scout Troop #252 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Kurt Meyers is troop leader.

The guest speaker is Mayor Kurt Lindstrom. Following the ceremony, all are invited to the chili and sandwich buffet provided by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Dunkirk City Hall closed Monday

The Dunkirk City Hall will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day. There will also be no zero sort recycling pickup on Monday this week.

Parent-Teacher Conference Wednesday in city school district

The Elementary Division of the Dunkirk City School District is looking forward to hosting a Parent-Teacher Conference Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Research shows that a close parent and teacher relationship greatly en-hances communication be-tween home and school. The communication, in turn, greatly increases children's progress in school.

The faculty and administration of Dunkirk elementary schools are looking forward to discussing student progress.

It is hoped that all parents and guardians will make every effort to attend the scheduled conferences.

Parents and guardians should contact their child's school if they have questions.

Forestville water project meeting

The Forestville Village Board is having a special meeting for the water project on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Municipal Building located at 18 Chestnut St.

Chautauqua County Land Bank sets organizational meeting Nov. 14

The Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development will hold an official meeting of the Chautauqua County Land Bank Corporation at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the CCIDA Board Room, 200 Harrison St., Jamestown to discuss official business associated with CCLBC's by-laws, certificate of incorporation, acquisition and disposition policies, election of officers and committee members, and other official business as required. The press, public and other stakeholders are invited to attend.

Training session on identification and reporting of child abuse

A New York State mandated training session for professionals on identifying and reporting child abuse, maltreatment and neglect will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 at the LoGuidice Educational Center, D. Building, 9520 Fredonia-Stockton Road in Fredonia.

The training is required for all persons applying for a provisional or permanent certificate of license valid for administrative or supervisory service, classroom teaching service, or school service. Therefore, in addition to teachers and school administrators, the mandate affects school physicians, nurses, therapists, and others in the fields of healthcare and education.

Participants should bring their licenses or certificate numbers with them if possible. A State Education Department certificate of completion will be provided for each participant. A $30 fee will be charged for this workshop. To register, call 1-800-344-9611 or 672-4371 ext. 2145. Participants are asked to be at the training 15 minutes prior to start time.

The session is provided by the School & Societal Perspectives Program of the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES.

Sinclairville Library hosting party

Children ages 7 through 12 are invited to the Sinclairville Free Library for a Thanksgiving party on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Join in for a fun evening of stories, games, a craft and special treat.
