Meetings for the public concerning Brocton-Westfield merger
Members of the public in Brocton and Westfield school districts are invited to attend a focus group to provide input for the feasibility study concerning the merger of the two districts.
The meeting for Brocton will be held today at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Brocton High School. The meeting for Westfield will be held on Monday at 7 p.m in the Westfield High School auditorium.
Members of the public are asked to attend the meeting in their current district. Further information about the study is available on the websites of the school districts.
Forestville issues reminder about parking, leaves
The Village of Forestville is issuing a reminder that all night parking on any public highways within the corporate limits of the Village of Forestville between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. during the period beginning Nov. 1 and ending April 15 of each year is prohibited. Each violator is subject to a fine of $10 for the first offense, and $25 for the second offense. If the vehicle is not removed the village will have it moved at the owners expense.
Also please be advised that leaf vacuuming ends on Thursday, Nov. 15. If residents wish to have their leaves picked up after Thursday, leaves must be bagged and placed by the curb.
Gas prices fall
Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have fallen 2.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.88/g Sunday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.2 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.46/g, according to gasoline price website RochesterGasPrices.com.
Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices Sunday were 25.6 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 18.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 32.6 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 3.1 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
'Kids night out' event Friday
The Family Martial Arts Center has teamed up with local businesses to host a free "kids night out" on Friday.
The event will run from 6-9 p.m. at the Family Martial Arts Center located at 355 Central Ave., Fredonia, next door to Family Video. Adult supervision is provided.
Dunkin' Donut, Family Video and Rent A Center are the sponsors for the event. The feature movie is "Madagascar 3."
All children must be dropped off by an adult and sign a release form. Refreshments will be served. Activities, games and crafts will be offered for their entertainment.

to be discussed

Holiday Craft Show Saturday at Moose lodge in Gowanda
The Star Recorder Committee of the Gowanda Women of the Moose will host a Holiday Craft Show Saturday at Moose Lodge on 201 Aldrich St., Gowanda from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Some of the crafts featured will be quilting, pen and ink, tole and decorative painting, stained glass, wooden working, gift baskets, ceramics, embroidery, jewelery, kitchen items and soaps.
